What is sketch comedy?
- Unlike improvisation, sketch comedy is all original scripted material that is set for the stage. A sketch comedy performance usually consists of short unrelated sketches rooted in satire.
- Sketch comedy was born in Chicago with the evolution of The Second City Theater in the 1950's. Over the decades, sketch comedy grew to give birth to such shows as, Saturday Night Live, SCTV, Mad TV, In Living Color, and 100's of other entertainment venues.
How do I choose which sketch group to see?
- There will be a brief description of the sketch troupes available as the event nears. Also, when you get to the theatre there will be a staff member ready to refer you to the show that fits your interests best.
Is there parking near the theater?
- There is street parking available on Belmont Avenue. There is also a valet service available right in front of the theater for $8.

- Offering a venue for groups to work in a supportive environment free from financial burden, The Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival covers all production costs, allowing each of the groups to focus on their creative efforts, while offering audiences samplings of the nation's best comedic sketch talent.
